We bought our house as a foreclosure. For the most part it was in good shape - as far as foreclosures go. The main bathroom was the only room that was in poor condition. We painted the black wainscoting a crisp white and the top of the wall a bright-ish green. We replaced the counter top, sink and faucet, knobs & pulls, and changed the bath into a tub/shower combo. (more pictures of that in another post.)
I had thought that the kitchen counters would be the FIRST thing that we would touch when it came time to remodel. *sigh* Unless you count deep cleaning them as touching them (for the record, I don't), we didn't change the counters. :( However, I am still happy with the "after" that is our kitchen. We removed the awful border paper and painted the wall green. We also put in new floor, all new appliances, and a new light. (Take note of the birds nest in the microwave in the before picture)
The living room wasn't terrible when we bought the place. The carpet was new due to an insurance claim that the bank made. However, the carpet was the cheapest stuff on the face of the earth and after 2 years of living here it looked like we drug it through the mud. daily. This room got painted, and though you can't tell from this picture, the fireplace wall is an accent wall. It's a blueish gray. The other walls are a brighter, more crisp version of the before picture. The nasty carpet was removed and new pretty floor put down. The dark trim in this room was also painted a crisp white. I'm still contemplating whether or not to paint the mantel white. And take note that I don't normally decorate my mantel with a pineapple. The realtor moved it off the counter for a picture and it somehow wound up on the mantel?!
