I haven't updated about Roger's health in awhile so I thought I'd do that now.
I think we have finally reached a diagnosis! From everything we have read, and everything our chiropractor/nutritionist has shared with us, we believe that Roger has Candida. That is basically an overgrowth of yeast in the body. Everyone has some yeast, and some is good... a lot is bad. Roger has a lot. He's had thrush numerous times in our married life. We just thought it was from his inhaler (which it was but it probably came out as thrush because his gut was already overridden with yeast). Years of antibiotics (there was a point in time when he was taking Biaxin every 2 weeks - for months at a time), years of Advair (for asthma - which has almost completely gone away since starting his "diet" a few months ago), years of eating sugary foods (flour, sugar... carbs!)
So now we know what he has... the problem is fixing it. He's been following the proper diet since Christmas time. Well, I guess it was shortly after that. He started his elimination diet of the 28 foods at that time, but we later went back to the Chiro/nutritionist when he wasn't feeling well and were given the yeast diagnosis. Diet alone isn't enough to control this thing.
After another recent bout of missed work and feeling just as bad as he had months and months ago, we started to research again. Our family Dr is out of the picture because when we last saw her she basically threw her arms up in the air and said "beats me". I'm pretty sure she thought this was all in Roger's head. So we have been treating up to this point with our 2 chiropractors (one also being the nutritionist. We like our original chiro SO much that we didn't want to stop seeing him. He has been SUCH a blessing.)
Yesterday we went to the health food store armed with a list of Candida fighting goodness. We came home with things like lemons, dandelion capsules, and green tea - among other things. I have no idea if our new concoction of remedies will work or not. From our research it is a good combo of stuff to combat this health condition. Unfortunately this is a serious condition which could take months to beat. And even when he does beat it he will need to stay after it, continuing to take the proper herbs, vitamins, and concoctions so that we keep the yeast at bay. Although, they will be in maintnece doses at that point instead of the heavy doses that we will be starting with. First things first though... get him better!
In the mean time, we are waiting to hear if his FMLA paperwork was approved. Because our family Dr isn't working with us anymore we had to ask our chiro/nutritionist to fill out the paperwork, which he was willing to do... but we aren't sure if they will consider him a qualified Dr to fill the paperwork out. And if they do, we aren't sure if he filled out the paperwork properly. He said he would call us when he filled it out, and he didn't. So what all of that means is... Roger could end up with a very short work day at some point next week. If his paperwork comes back as denied then his job is over.
We are not stressed about it. God is in control. He certainly knows the health struggles that Roger is having. He knows our needs. If Roger loses his job, God is good. If he keeps it, God is good. I know we will be provided for. The HOW is left to be unseen... but we won't live in fear of that. :)
