A week or so ago we were going through the game closet, weeding out the games that we never play. We have a few games from when Roger and I were kids that we have been saving for when our kids are older.
I think they're older.
They have become obsessed with The Game of Life.
It takes anywhere between 1 to 2 hours to play a game. And they all sit still for the entire game. Including Adaiah.
Roger is always the banker. We usually let Joseph help with the math but he hasn't handled the money yet. At this point I think it will just lead to arguments over who gets to be banker.
Adaiah's turns usually go something like this:
spin, spin again, spin again, aaaand spin again
announces that she spun "1"
moves her car all across the board, stopping close to whoever she wants to be next to at the moment.
Then she wants the pink money. Sometimes she wants to buy a house. Often she wants to change her job.
We just let her do whatever she needs to do to be happy... but we make sure she doesn't get the highest paying salary of the game. :)
After playing the game no less than 6 times, we realized we weren't playing it properly. (did you know the blue spaces are optional? You don't have to trade salary cards!) :)
Hannah learned how to count the right number of spaces. It used to drive me crazy whenever we played a game and she would start counting her move with the square she was currently on. She doesn't do that anymore though. Yay! :)
Nehemiah entertains himself between turns. He's really quite mellow during the game, quietly hoarding his money in a big pile. He likes to own stock so he gets paid whenever someone spins his number.
Joseph likes to try and figure the game out. Unfortunately there isn't much strategy involved in Life. It's all the luck of the draw. Oh, how he loves to be the policeman with the $100,000 salary! :)
Out of all the times we've played I don't think I have even once chosen to go to college. Is that wrong? :)
The kids are begging to play Monopoly (or Bunopoly as a few of the kids call it) :) but I don't think I'm ready to play that one with them. If Life takes almost 2 hours I can only imagine how long it would take us to play Monopoly!
*completely unrelated and random* I think we might actually work on finishing the dining room this weekend! So no more orange wall peeking out and that blue line of painters tape can finally be removed! Here's to hoping we get that done! :)
