What we've been up to
Catching mice.
We had mice once when we were living in Pennsylvania. They were in our basement, eating a gingerbread house. That's when I decided gingerbread houses do NOT get saved and the kids get 1 minute to eat them. We found the hole they entered through, filled it with steel wool, cleaned EVERYTHING out of the basement, sprayed it down with bleach and put everything back again. In the whole process a mouse never made its way to the main floor.
In our storage unit in TX, right before we moved here, we found evidence of a mouse. We gave our notice, removed our things, and bleached anything that even looked like it was close to where the mouse was.
Now.
Now we have mice in our house. On the same floor where we eat, live, and play. (to clarify, we don't eat off the floor. 6 out of 7 of us don't anyway. I'm not naming any names.)
About 17 seconds after the horrid little creature was found I sent Roger to go get traps for it. That night 3 SNAPS were heard. Only 1 was caught. We bought sticky traps the next day and added them to the arsenal of mouse doom. 1 more dead.
A call to the front office for our development got me put on a waiting list. This could be a REALLY long story, but I'll spare the added drama of how much I dislike the place we are living.
Indiana Pest showed up today. He used a flashlight on his iPhone to search every nook and cranny of my house. Not only are they in the utility closet (like we originally thought) but they were also under my kitchen sink. AND, this one makes me mad, their is evidence of a mouse from quite some time ago under the stove. No, let me rephrase that. Evidence of a mouse under our NEW stove. In our completely gutted and remodeled kitchen. Someone just went right the heck over mouse nasty and carried along with the remodel like it was nothing.
No wonder this place needed a deep cleaning when we moved in.
So... Indiana Pest set up some bait for the unwanted furry creatures. Maintenance is supposed to be here tomorrow to fill holes. I have zero faith in their abilities to do this properly. Honestly, from what the Pest control guy said, they can't even do it properly without tearing down structure and rebuilding. It's almost a wonder we don't have more of a problem than what we do.
And on that note, pray that Roger's job hires him on as a permanent employee SOON. Like really soon. Like defeats all odds, never heard of it happen so fast, soon.
Let's end on a positive note though, shall we? We got a door for our shed today! 2+ months after moving in we can finally use our shed! *eye roll* (It really will be a good place to store sleds though.)
