A few weeks ago I was browsing one of my favorite cake sites when I suddenly had the urge to google "home based bakery in TX". The last time I checked it was illegal to have a home-based bakery down here... but I knew there was a group of people lobbying to get the law changed. My search was met with pages upon pages of happy results! This past September, while we were living in a hotel, the law was changed! I can now bake cakes out of my home kitchen and sell them to the public. (I can't sell at farmer's markets or anything of the sort.) I will have to label my cakes (actually, the cake boxes) ;) making sure to let people know that they were made in a home kitchen that has not been inspected by the health department.
I just hope that I haven't turned down so much business that people stop thinking of me when they want a cake.
If you have any desire to check it out, I have a cake blog. CakeByTheSlice.blogspot.com It's not so much a blog as it is a spot to put some of my cake pictures and flavors list.
Speaking of flavors... I made a root beer float cake the other day. YUM! That flavor needs to be added to the list.
Just thought I'd share my excitement. :)
