Pinewood Derby

Since we found a church that we love here, we've been attending the Wednesday evening Bible Study.  The kids have their classes and the adults have theirs.  Afterwards everyone gets together in the gym for games.  The men usually play kickball/dodgeball/basketball with the kids, while the women sit around and chat.  :) Well, Wednesday night Bible Study ends for the summer and it goes out with a bang.  :)

The year ended with a fun Pinewood Derby! The kids each got to decorate a car (they didn't carve them, just decorate).  The gentleman that carves the cars has been doing this for years and has a few patterns that he uses.  He is very particular and gets them all as close in weight as possible.  We weighed ours when we got home and two were the same weight and the third was .001 grams off.  I'd say he did a good job. :)

The cars...

I baked a bunch of cupcakes to share.  In case you can't tell what you are looking at, they are teddy grahams and minion grahams driving derby cars made out of mini snickers.  They were a hit. :)

None of the kids had ever been to or seen a Pinewood Derby race before.  It was exciting!

Yes, Hannah is a bit grumpy here. :)  She had won 1st place in 2 races and was 3rd or 4th in the last race.

Note: Joseph is in 6th grade, which puts him in the youth group.  The youth group didn't make derby cars.  Instead they each chose a kid to cheer for.  It was a fun night!
